Mixed games reward knowing which rules are in force right now.
What happened
PGT’s event report records Negreanu winning the 2024 $50,000 Poker Players Championship from a field of 89 entrants, with Bryce Yockey finishing second. Their heads-up contest lasted nearly four hours and included changes in the lead.
The event’s mixed-game structure is central to its meaning. A recap that treats every hand as no-limit hold’em loses the feature that makes this championship distinctive. This article reviews that format challenge rather than inventing a complete final-table hand log.
What the case teaches
Compare a board showing four cards of one suit. In hold’em, a player can use one matching hole card with four board cards to make a flush. In standard four-card Omaha, the player must use exactly two hole cards and three board cards, so one matching hole card is insufficient. The same visual board can therefore demand different reasoning. This example is our rules illustration, not a reported hand from the championship.
Is the Poker Players Championship a hold’em-only event?
No. Its mixed-game format is why the result is discussed as an achievement across different poker disciplines.
