Analyst • Advantage play
An author and analyst whose three Blackjack Ball wins inspired the Grosjean Cup.
Biography
James Grosjean is an advantage-play analyst and the author associated with Beyond Counting. His public reputation centers on examining the precise information and rules available in a game, rather than treating all casino games as the same problem.
The Blackjack Hall of Fame lists his induction in 2006. The Blackjack Ball’s account records three skill-contest wins, in 2004, 2007 and 2008, after which he was barred from further participation in that contest and the trophy was named the Grosjean Cup.
That story makes a good introduction to the difference between demonstrated analytical skill and a claim about casino earnings. A contest result has its own tasks and scoring. It is evidence about performance in that contest, not a ledger of profits from ordinary casino sessions.
